MBHA Inspection Report October 2008

Inspection Result Published

The Scottish Housing Regulator has just published its report following their inspection of our housing services.

The Scottish Housing Regulator is an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government that regulates Registered Social Landlords like Margaret Blackwood HA.  Their inspections are a way of making sure social landlords like us are well run, accountable to their customers and are continually improving their services.

Following our inspection that took place between 25 March and 15 April 2008, we have been awarded a Fair Grade (C).

Michael Cameron, Head of Inspection at The Scottish Housing Regulator said: “The Association has taken steps to improve performance in delivering its landlord services and has already achieved some success in delivering better services to its tenants, particularly in delivering its response repairs service, letting empty houses and managing arrears.

“The Association still needs to improve in some areas of its work, it needs to be clearer about its purpose, communicate more effectively with its Registered Tenant Organisations and tenant groups and ensure it can demonstrate that it is providing value for money services.”

The inspection report commented positively on our introduction a new allocation policy, noting that this will help us focus more on meeting housing needs when letting our houses.

Grant Carson, Chair of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association said “As part of its open and consultative culture the Association welcomes feedback on its services and performance and we see the Inspection as part of that process. It is good to see that the Scottish Housing Regulator recognises the improvements and particular successes we have achieved to date. Margaret Blackwood Housing Association’s vision is to be renowned as a leader in the provision of the best possible housing and opportunities for the communities it serves and we look forward to working in partnership with the Regulator to further drive forward our already well established programme of continuous improvement.”

The Board have considered the Inspection Report and appreciate the opportunity it gives Margaret Blackwood Housing Association to further develop our housing services.  We will be addressing the report’s findings by developing an improvement plan.  The Board has reiterated the importance of involving tenants and other stakeholders in the plan’s implementation.
