Margaret Blackwood Technical Consultants’ Small Works Team (SWOT) has been expanded to include two new trades with the recruitment of an electrician and a plumber. It now has a staff of nine.

The SWOT team had previously consisted of joiners and painters and had been able to offer some rare apprenticeship opportunities.

Chris Thomson, Operations Director for Margaret Blackwood Housing Association, says “Our commitment to creating opportunities with young people continues to grow. In addition to employing three apprentices last year, our subsidiary is delighted to participate in the Training Opportunities In Lothians (TOIL) initiative by placing a student directly into our team.”

SWOT carries out small repairs, maintenance and accessibility adaptation tasks for the tenants of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association and for external clients. In the 18 months since SWOT was launched, they have established a reputation for excellent work and a fast, cheerful response and are the Association’s best-performing contractor.
