Remodelling Head Office Spearheads Improved Working for Tenants
The remodelling of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association’s dated head office
in Edinburgh will have a major impact on their drive to continuously improve the
services they deliver to tenants.
The office accommodation at Craigievar House has been transformed, allowing
staff to work more effectively. By sweeping away the cellular offices of old and
replacing them with a modern, open workspace, the Association is reinforcing its
efforts to develop a multi-skilled workforce which has broken the shackles of
departmentalism and demarcation. The new office layout includes improved access
for staff and visitors alike, along with a commercial library and new meeting
and project rooms.
Completion of the new working environment couldn’t be more timely as staff
increasingly concentrate on delivering important projects on behalf of tenants.
The Association has started on an ambitious programme to improve, remodel and
upgrade facilities in several of its older schemes to meet the needs and
aspirations of its tenants in the 21st Century.
Robin Burley, Chair of Margaret Blackwood Housing Association, said:
"We are already reaping the benefits of moving from a very old-fashioned
layout with increases in efficiency and better service standards. The exercise
has brought real pay-back but was much less expensive and disruptive than a move
to new premises. The flexibility and professionalism of our staff has meant
almost no disruption to our service to tenants, which has been fundamentally
important.
Officially re-opening the refurbished headquarters, Angiolina Foster, Chief
Executive of Communities Scotland, the Scottish Executive’s housing and
regeneration agency, added:
"It occurs to me that tackling disadvantage and creating a fair and equal
society, which was the vision of Margaret Blackwood over 30 years ago, remains
the commitment of our respective organisations today. Communities Scotland is
committed to working with our partners to deliver increased equal opportunity
and a better quality of life to everyone in Scotland.
"The improved working conditions we see here today will improve the delivery
of services to tenants – a commitment we share. Communities Scotland looks
forward to continuing to support and work with the Association to deliver the
ambitious plans it has to improve conditions for tenants and increase their
independence throughout the country."
