What's Happening Across Scotland?
Consultation Event - Social Housing and the Right to BuyThe Scottish Government has launched a consultation for a new Draft Housing (Scotland) Bill. If the bill becomes law, it would end the Right to Buy for new social housing tenants in Scotland. It would also make changes to the rules and standards housing providers must follow. This may not sound like the most exciting read, but if you live in social housing it could really impact on your rights. You can download an introduction to the proposed changes to the Bill here. The Scottish Government has a duty to consult with disabled people when it is considering introducing new policies. Because of this, and because many disabled people live in social housing, the Government (along with SDEF) has organised a small focus group to discuss the housing bill and the impact it might have. The group is particularly aimed at people with disabilities and/or their carers who live in social housing (ie. housing they rent from the council or housing association). A consultation event is being held on Friday 7th August, 12pm-4pm at Victoria Quay. If you are interested in attending, please download and fill in the Booking Form and send to: Hanna McCulloch Scottish Disability Equality Forum 12 Enterprise House SprinkerseBusiness Park Stirling FK7 7UF Membership of MBHAOur Tenant Participation Advisory Group met earlier in June at our Broom Court development in Stirling. One of the main topics of discussion was the new opportunities for membership of The Association. All tenants will shortly be receiving details about meetings which they can attend to find out more. The Advisory Group meets around 4-6 times per year and comprises of tenants, staff and Board members. We are looking to recruit new tenant members so if you are interested and have the time to spare, we would be keen to hear from you. For more information please contact Lynne Marshall or Ainan Groat (Tenant Participation Officers) on 0131 3170106 or email us at TPO@mbha.org.uk.
