Founded in 1972 by Dr Margaret Blackwood, Blackwood is now a national organisation providing over 1,500 properties across 29 local authorities in Scotland, with a mix of house types suitable for all sectors of the community.
The Association is registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator as a non-profit making registered charity (number SC007658). We are also a Registered Social Landlord and are monitored by the Scottish Housing Regulator.
We operate under the legislative framework provided by the Industrial and Provident Societies Act and are registered in the Financial Services Authority Mutuals Public Register, number 1728RS.
Blackwood is an Investor in People accredited organisation. Please visit our Awards and Accreditations page for more information.
Blackwood has a governing Board of Management. Our Board Members are volunteers who are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organisation and making sure it has the resources to achieve this. They employ staff to manage and deliver the Association's services and are responsible for monitoring the quality and impact of the services provided.
We employ over 400 staff, of which around 350 provide care and support services. The staff is led by the Senior Management Team, covering the main areas of our work: Housing Services (housing and maintenance services for tenants and sharing owners); Business Development (new house building and major works to current homes); Care and Support Services and Corporate Services (Business Services, Human Resources, Finance and ICT).
