About Us
The Blackwood Foundation works to support and enhance independent living for people with a disability or support need. Our aim is to be a catalyst for innovation, development and improvement. The work of Blackwood Foundation is focused on design and technology.
Design
High quality design has a significant effect on people's independence and quality of life. Our main focus is the domestic environment and we are interested in design in a range of contexts including house structure and layout, fixtures and fittings, interior design, aids & adaptations and household products.
Technology
We believe that technology will be critical in bridging the resource gap between support needs and support provision in the future. The areas that interest us in particular are assistive technology (devices developed specifically to support independent living), mainstream technology (utilising off the shelf technologies to support independent living) and digital inclusion.
The Blackwood Foundation is committed to placing end users at the start and the heart of development work so that design concepts and technological developments meet their needs, desires and aspirations for independent living.
