Equality and Diversity

At Blackwood, our founding principle is equality.  Dr Margaret Blackwood was a prominent campaigner for equal rights for disabled people.  In the beginning, this was a search for basic rights that were denied to disabled people.

Over time, the focus of our equalities approach has developed and extended.  We understand disability in a wider sense, and we address all equality issues, including age, race, gender or gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion and belief and sexual orientation. This is Blackwood's core value and is at the heart of what we stand for.

Putting the Equality and Diversity Policy into practice is the responsibility of every employee and Board member.  Everyone has a part to play in questioning current practice, identifying improvements, and moving us forward. Our Equality and Diversity policy is the starting point in helping us do that.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applications from all sorts of people.  We judge people on the basis of their skills and experience and what they bring to us, not on any personal or protected characteristics. We value workforce diversity, believing that it is when people from different backgrounds, with different perceptions and ideas work together that the highest standard of service is achieved.

Please read our Equality and Diversity Policy for more information.
