Stephen Gallagher was appointed as the new Chairperson for Blackwood at our Annual General Meeting on 12th September 2011. Stephen has a long-standing commitment to Blackwood, having served as a Board member since 2003 and as Vice Chair since 2007.
Stephen has a clear vision for the organisation; he wants to help Blackwood to deliver excellent services that meet individual tenants' needs: "It's an honour to lead such a talented Board at a really challenging yet exciting time of change for Blackwood. We want all of this energy and optimism to result in real improvements for our tenants and service users in the months and years ahead. Every tenant and service user should expect a great service from Blackwood, tailored to them and without duplication - every person, every time."
Stephen brings a wealth of experience to the table. He is Head of Performance Management at NHS Scotland, working with 14 health boards and up to 130,000 staff. He is devoted to the change programme, led by Interim Chief Executive Steve White, and believes Blackwood's future is very bright.
Stephen replaces Grant Carson as Chairperson, who has been at Blackwood's helm since February 2007. Before joining the Board in 1998, Grant was a Blackwood tenant for over 10 years and then worked for the organisation as a Welfare Rights Officer. Grant will continue to serve as a Board Member.
Steve White says: "Stephen has been already been working very closely with the Board and management team over the past few years to help us to really drive the organisation forward. His appointment as Chair is fantastic news for Blackwood as it will provide us with stability during difficult times for the sector. It will enable us to complete our journey in getting closer to our tenants and service users, putting them at the heart of everything we do."
