Supported HousingProspective tenants of our supported housing should make their own informed decision about housing and should be motivated and committed to living as independently as possible. In return, we offer a high level of flexible assistance by professionally trained staff. This support is tailored to individual needs and is available on a 24-hour basis, whether the tenant lives alone or with his or her family. The supported housing is designed and managed to allow tenants privacy and choice within a safe and supportive environment. There are twelve fully self-contained properties consisting of: - 6 single-person flats which all include living room, double bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom with a "wet-floor" shower that is easily accessible by a wheelchair user;
- 2 two-person flats which all include living room, double bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom with a "wet-floor" shower;
- 2 three-person bungalows, both of which feature living room, two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom with "wet-floor" shower, and carport;
- 2 four-person bungalows - one with two bedrooms and one with three bedrooms - each featuring living room, kitchen, bathroom with "wet-floor" shower, and carport.
Each supported property has double glazing, central heating, fire detection, alarm and call systems installed. Automatic door openers and other adaptations to suit individual needs can be provided. Communal facilities available to tenants of the supported flats and houses include a spacious lounge and dining room, a well equipped laundry and battery charging points for electric wheelchairs. Housekeeping - As well as cleaning all the communal areas within the main building, domestic staff help tenants to clean their flats as required. Personal Care The keyworker system - As well as having the security of 24-hour care from a highly trained team on hand, tenants in Margaret Blackwood supported housing can depend on the familiar and friendly help that comes from our "keyworker" system. Each tenant has a member of the support staff nominated as their keyworker. This will be someone with whom the tenant particularly relates and with whom they can discuss their specific needs. The keyworker, in co-ordination with other staff, helps the tenant work towards his or her personal goals. Tenants and keyworkers also develop support plans which are detailed programmes of care and support specifically tailored to meet individual needs. | |
Personal ChoiceThe democratic approach - Tenants are encouraged to participate fully in the running of Eday Gardens. Regular meetings are held where ideas, concerns and information can be shared.
